UHP DISCOVER
SUMMER 2023

A Journey into the Research Field

In the summer of 2023, I took part in the UHP Discover program.

I worked with Dr. Sherrae Daniel from the Department of Operations, Business Analytics, and Information Systems at the Lindner College of Business. I also worked alongside Dr. Liwei Chen, Lindner College, and Dr. Brian Fitzgerald from the Lero Research Centre in Ireland.

The research project focused on Open Source Software developers and the correlation between their presence on social media and professional outcomes. We conducted interviews with prominent figures in the open-source community to gain insights. After we finished the interviews, our team coded the insights by identifying the trends and categorizing our findings.

Throughout the summer, I was actively involved in a Research Learning Community, where I interacted with fellow UC students exploring diverse topics such as politics, design, and education. This experience provided a rich environment for connecting with peers and expanding my understanding of various research areas.

In conclusion, the UHP Discover program equipped me with the practical skills and insights necessary to navigate the challenges of being a researcher in a professional setting. The opportunity to work with experienced professionals and engage with a vibrant research community has been instrumental in shaping my understanding of the research field. In the past semester, I have been able to apply the skills and lessons I have learned to my work with the NEXT Innovation Scholars Program.
